GIS I VASSDRAG may be run on MS Windows 2000 and requires the installation of ArcView for a full analysis functionality. It is advisable to copy this areas on to the hard diskĪt the installation on the PC. The entire program package is called GIS I VASSDRAG which is also the name of the system directory in the distribution CDs. Furthermore routines are made for determining co-ordinates in the simulated results and for using them to find swamped areas due to the flood wave. Independent program software and routines in the ArcView are developed in order to make symetric profiles as aids for preparing the input data for the DAMBRK. This report describes the work of making routines for the use of the ArcView GIS together with the program BOSS DAMBRK in order to adapt the input data and visualise the result in connection with simulated dam fractures. Geographic information systems (GIS) are tools suitable for this work. Such calculations show the water levels at different points below the dam and it is desirable to show how the flood spreads in the valley so that it would be possible to study how this influences roads, houses and other infrastructure. The calculations of flood waves resulting from dam fractures are an important part of the studies of dam safety and the construction of plans for waterway accidents.
